Beyond the Classroom

Some of the most memorable learning happens beyond lessons. Whether on the sports field, on stage, outdoors or leading a club, pupils discover new interests, develop essential life skills, have fun and build lasting friendships.

We have a wide range of exciting extra-curricular opportunities on offer. Pupils choose from many options in art, music, drama, dance, sport, outdoor education and a vibrant programme of clubs and societies.

Whether cultivating a particular talent, competing against the best or taking part for fun, activities beyond the classroom help to create the buzz of daily school life.

Through involvement in extra-curricular activities, pupils become more rounded and gain a sense of perspective about their academic studies. Helping pupils develop ‘breadth and balance’ is one of our values. We encourage everyone to take full advantage of the opportunities available, get involved and make commitments.

Quality time spent on the pitch, stage, trail and in the studio helps students develop self-confidence, organisation and resilience and, more often than not, interests for life.

Read our Community & Enrichment magazine to discover recent expeditions, performances, sporting successes, clubs, leadership opportunities and pupil-led initiatives across The Perse.

We offer more than 100 clubs and societies, from bridge to sewing, robotics to debating, and literature to ecology, in addition to 70+ music ensembles and more than 150 sports teams.

One of our most popular extra-curricular options is the Perse Exploration Society. More than 700 students enjoy the many adventures taken with expeditions both in the UK and overseas.

I have forged amazing friendships in the wildest places, and learned so much from training and trips – life lessons I know I couldn’t have learned in a classroom!
