PELICAN SCHOOL

Inclusion

At the Pelican, every child is known, valued and encouraged to be themselves. We create a warm and welcoming environment where children feel a strong sense of belonging and learn to treat others with kindness and respect.

Inclusion, equality and diversity are woven through everyday life. Through stories, play, assemblies and carefully planned learning experiences, children are introduced to different families, cultures, traditions and perspectives. Our Think Equal programme helps children explore feelings, relationships and fairness, while mindfulness activities and our Learning Friends foster empathy, resilience, confidence and collaboration.

Children learn to listen to one another, share their ideas and understand how their words and actions can affect others. Through Eco Club and Pelican Parliament, they also learn to express their views, consider different opinions and experience how decisions can be made collectively.

Our staff know each child well and work closely with families to understand their individual strengths and needs. Where additional support is beneficial, it is identified early and tailored carefully so that every child can participate fully, develop independence and experience success.

Inspectors recognised this approach as a particular strength, noting that children build “secure, supportive relationships” and learn to treat others “with respect and kindness”.
