Outdoor Education

Welcome to the Perse Outdoor Education Department. Our aim is to provide Perse students with world-class standards of extra-curricular opportunity with a specific focus on developing transferable skills for later life.

Every year the Outdoor Education Department runs more than 20 trips in the UK, Europe and further afield. All groups have regular meetings or training trips, to fully prepare pupils for their adventures outdoors. Outdoor education is an integral part of school life with curriculum lessons in Year 1-7, climbing as a sports option in Year 9-13 and extra-curricular activities for pupils in Year 7-13.

Outdoor education is delivered at our state-of-the-art climbing wall, outdoor education centre, and rifle range. Full time qualified and experienced staff deliver the programme with the support of teaching staff and volunteers.

At the core of provision is the Perse Exploration Society (PES), a progressive programme taking pupils from their first night away from home to multi-week expeditions to high altitude venues in India, Bolivia and beyond.

Have a passion for climbing, archery, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding or target rifle shooting? There are a range of discipline specific groups that develop your interest in a fun and social environment.

Looking to gain qualifications and personal confidence? Look no further than the Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award scheme and National Indoor Climbing Association Scheme (NICAS) climbing courses. The outdoor education department is a licensed centre for both schemes and operates all award levels.
