PELICAN SCHOOL

Ethos and Values

At the Pelican, our values and ethos shape every child’s experience from their very first day. We provide a warm, nurturing environment where children are encouraged to be curious, happy and inspired, to value themselves and others, and to develop the confidence, kindness and love of learning that will support them throughout their journey.

Intellectual Curiosity & Scholarship

The Pelican is full of inquisitive children who are eager to discover more about the world around them. Each day brings opportunities to build knowledge, develop skills and nurture a lasting enthusiasm for learning. Through imaginative topic work, stories, languages, practical science and learning through play, children are encouraged to ask questions, explore ideas and delight in new discoveries.

Breadth & Balance

Pelican children enjoy a rich and varied education that supports their academic, creative, physical and personal development. Learning takes place both inside and outside the classroom, with stimulating outdoor spaces, sport, play and educational visits helping to bring ideas to life. A broad range of topics, cultures and experiences gives every child opportunities to discover what interests them, develop new skills and enjoy learning with others.

Endeavour

At the Pelican, every step forward is worth celebrating. Children are encouraged to have a go, keep trying and feel proud of the effort that leads to progress, whether they are writing their name, counting, getting themselves ready after sport or tackling something new. With patient encouragement and support, they develop resilience, independence and the confidence to approach the next challenge positively.

Valuing One Another & Our Environment

The Pelican is a caring community where every child is known, supported and valued. Children learn to share, take turns, be kind and help one another within a safe environment that feels like home. Small classes enable staff to understand each child’s individual needs, while friendships, charitable activities and learning about different cultures encourage children to care for people beyond the School. Time spent learning and playing outdoors also helps them appreciate and look after the world around them.
