Exceptional exam results achieved by Perse students in 2025

Once again Perse students have performed outstandingly well in their public exam results.

With the outcome of 2025 results reviews almost over, the percentage of Perse pupils achieving top grades at GCSE and A level is amongst the best in the country.

At GCSE, 55% of entries were graded 9 (equivalent to the top end of the old A*) and more than 90% 9-7 (equivalent to A*-A), compared to national figures of 5.1% (grade 9) and 21.8% (grades 9-7).

Notably, these are The Perse’s best GCSE results post-Covid pandemic. They are also particularly outstanding achievements as Perse pupils only sit Ofqual-regulated and Department for Education recognised GCSEs, rather than unregulated IGCSE qualifications sat by many independent schools.

Within these figures, 24 students attained a clean sweep of grade 9s and 84 achieved all grades at 9-8. Ten or more grade 9s were attained by 28 pupils, many of whom also completed Level 2 further maths, the Higher Project Qualification (HPQ), or both.

Well over half of Year 11 pupils completed Level 2 further maths, with an impressive 83% attaining 9 or 8. Their intellectual curiosity was highlighted with a third of the year group undertook HPQ projects with 95% of entries grade A*/A.

At A level, it was a similar picture with more than 43% of Perse entries graded A*, almost 80% A*/A, and nearly 94% A*-B, in comparison to national averages of 9.4% (A*), 28.3% (A*/A) and 55.2% (A*-B).

A total of 33 students achieved all A* grades, of which 23 claimed an impressive four or more A*, with one student attaining a stunning six A* grades.

Independent research was again a key area of focus for Perse Sixth Form students with 92% of entries for the Extended Project Qualification graded A*-A, while across GCSE and A level, all 41 pupils taking music incredibly achieved the highest possible grade (either 9 or A*).

As a result of their A level results, three quarters of Perse students have gained places at their first-choice universities.

Independently conducted value-added analysis also shows that in 2025, as in previous years, Perse pupils of a given ability level did better at GCSE and A level than the independent school average for pupils of the same ability.

This Perse ‘out-performance’ can be explained by our high standards of teaching and pastoral support, and the prevailing culture where pupils and teachers ‘go the extra mile’ in pursuit of success.

Perse Deputy Head (Teaching and Learning) Tanya Khimyak commented: “We are incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students in their recent examinations.

“Their hard work, perseverance and genuine love of learning are clearly reflected in their success. These excellent results reflect not only their talent and dedication, but also the care and guidance provided by our teachers and the unwavering support of families.

“Congratulations to each and every one of them. Their success today is an inspiring step toward the bright futures they are building.”
