Research
Research at The Perse
Research is one of the defining features of a Perse education. It encourages pupils to pursue their own questions, explore subjects that genuinely interest them and develop the independence, critical thinking and intellectual curiosity that underpin academic success. In an age of artificial intelligence, learning how to ask insightful questions, evaluate evidence and think independently has never been more important.
Thinking independently
Pupils are given the freedom to investigate topics that reflect their passions, academic interests or future aspirations. Whether studying medicine, engineering, literature or philosophy, they learn how to plan research, evaluate sources, construct persuasive arguments and communicate complex ideas with confidence. The emphasis is not simply on finding answers, but on asking better questions.
Beyond the classroom
Research opportunities run throughout the school, from Themes and Projects in Lower School to the optional Higher Project Qualification in Year 10 and the Aristotelian Award in Year 9. Where appropriate, pupils are supported in collaborating with universities, external organisations and academic specialists, allowing them to experience genuine research beyond the classroom.
Recent highlights
The enthusiasm and ambition shown by Perse researchers regularly leads to exceptional outcomes. Pupils have presented their work at academic conferences, published research in journals and completed highly original projects across an extraordinary range of disciplines. The programme equips pupils with the confidence and intellectual independence valued by leading universities and future employers.
