Singaporean students enjoy special day at The Perse

Singaporean students experienced life in an English school during a special day making new friends at The Perse.
Around 20 pupils from Nanyang Girls’ High School visited the Upper and spent time shadowing Year 10 and 11 Perse Mandarin students in their regular morning lessons.
The visitors went on to have a fantastic time getting to grips with the climbing and bouldering walls in the new Perse Sports Centre under the watchful eye of outdoor education staff.
After being shown the ropes, they met up with their Perse buddies once more for lively drama and debating workshops, led by Director of English and Drama Chris Green and drama teacher Jonathan Black.
The Nanyang party rounded off their trip by enjoying a traditional English afternoon tea, including jam and clotted cream. However, they had to use their bushcraft skills, helped by Sixth Form and Year 10 outdoor education leaders, to make a fire on which to boil a kettle of water for their hot drinks.
Perse Head of Mandarin Hannah Bolton, who helped co-ordinate the event, said: “It was wonderful to welcome back Nanyang girls and their teachers following their visit last year.
“It was an excellent opportunity for students to practise their Mandarin and English, as well as share cultural similarities and differences with one another.”
