Perse pupils experience outdoor adventure with PES Base Camp

More than 140 Year 7 pupils were given a taste of the great outdoors with a PES Base Camp trip to The Perse’s Abington site.

They worked in their tutor groups to pitch camp and cook for themselves and were encouraged to develop their autonomy with the support of Year 10 pupil leaders, who ran an excellent campfire singsong after dinner, including s’mores and hot chocolate all round.

In the glorious weather the next morning, pupils enjoyed cooking bread over an open fire and taking part in a high-paced wide game, with Year 7 displaying impressive teamwork and completing tasks smoothly and efficiently.

Perse outdoor education instructor Maya Hide said: “This camp was also a great opportunity for some out-of-school bonding between form groups and to have an opportunity to take part in their first PES trip.”
