Perse Lower School actors star in magical Honk! musical

A quacking time was had by actors and audiences alike with the Perse Lower School production of Honk! JR.
Based on the traditional fairy tale of The Ugly Duckling, the fun musical by Anthony Drewe and George Styles was performed over four shows by two alternating casts, totalling more than 50 pupils from Years 7 and 8.
Perse Theatre Practitioner in Residence David Barrett directed Honk! and was delighted with the response to the production.
He said: “It went very well and it was lovely to have so many kids involved, not only on stage but backstage as well, where we had three members of the Lower School working as part of the crew.
“The two casts were very different. Both put on a great show and it was nice that we had so many parents from the Prep and Pelican come along as well.”

Mr Barrett was pleased a wide range of pupils got involved, from those with experience of performance to newcomers to the stage.
He said: “We had some who had been in the Perse Players production of Mary Poppins earlier this year or who had experience of performing while doing shows at the Prep, but also quite a few new faces from Year 8 particularly.
“The wealth of talent in the Lower School is very exciting and it’s our job to keep inspiring them to do more drama.
