No question about Perse quiz team’s display in national finals

The Perse general knowledge team did themselves proud in the Senior Schools’ Challenge national finals at The Hall School in London.

Having come through three rounds of quizzing to qualify for the national finals, the team of captain Vishrut (Upper Sixth), Dhruv, Darien, Marcus and substitute James (all Lower Sixth) made it to the last four in the competition.

They beat Bedford School 490-420 in the quarter-finals before losing to a very strong Hampton School team in their semi-final.

Perse general knowledge co-ordinator Fred Jayatilaka was pleased with the team’s performance in an exceptionally high-standard competition.

He said: “Reaching the semi-finals of any national competition is an incredible achievement and the result of long-term commitment and talent.

“As ever, I was impressed with the calmness under pressure and good spirit shown by the Perse team, not to mention their quizzing skills.

“It is always a pleasure and a privilege to go to these events with our students, and I felt proud to be their ‘coach’. It was nice that the team members had their parents watching on with pride as well.

“This was also Vishrut’s last quiz for The Perse, having represented the school over the last seven years with distinction, and he deserves a special congratulations for his contributions over this time.”
