Experienced industry professionals lead PAPA masterclasses

PAPA is welcoming two leading industry professionals for a pair of focused masterclasses on Saturday 6 June, giving young performers the chance to train with people who are actively working at the top of their field.

The sessions will be led by Kelly Downing, Dance Captain from the original West End cast of Hamilton, and Emma Lowndes, a BAFTA award‑winning actor whose screen work includes Downton Abbey, Military Wives and Amadeus. They are open to all young people and you don’t have to be a current member of PAPA to attend.

David Barrett, Creative Director at PAPA, said:

“These masterclasses capture the kind of enriching experiences that sit at the heart of PAPA. We’re really pleased to be welcoming Kelly and Emma, and the breadth of experience they bring from both stage and screen. It’s a brilliant chance for students to be challenged, inspired, and have a great time learning from professionals working at the highest level.”

Hamilton Dance Masterclass – Saturday 6 June (1 hour)

Led by Kelly Downing, Dance Captain from the original West End cast of Hamilton, the hugely successful Broadway and West End musical, this high‑energy workshop gives children the chance to learn choreography and performance skills directly from the show.

These sessions for Year 3-6 and Year 7-13 will focus on technique, musicality and stage presence, while keeping things practical, supportive and fun.

Acting for Screen Masterclass – Saturday 6 June (90 minutes)

In this session for Year 6-13, Emma Lowndes will introduce participants to the skills needed for acting on camera. Through practical exercises, students will explore subtlety, focus and connection on screen, as well as how screen acting differs from stage work.

Emma will also share insight into how sets are run, what directors and camera teams are looking for, and the language and processes commonly used on screen, helping students better understand how professional screen work really operates.

Places are limited and expected to fill quickly. Bookings can be made here – don’t miss out!
