Double win for Perse students at regional LEGO League tournament
Hard work paid off for a group of Perse engineers, who recently picked up an award at a prestigious FIRST® LEGO® League robotics competition.
During half term, 15 Perse students travelled to BT Adastral Park to take part in the regional event, hosted by LEGO®. The League is designed to empower young learners in STEM, bringing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to life through engaging, project-based activities.
The event provides students with hands-on experience that makes these subjects feel relevant and exciting, all while connecting with a worldwide community of like-minded young innovators.

At the event, students split into two teams, where they built and programmed their own autonomous robots capable of tackling a series of challenges on a themed field. Alongside the “Robot Game” itself, each team also had to present an Innovation Project to a panel of judges.
It proved an enjoyable and worthwhile day. The students came home with two trophies from the regional competition.
The first was the Innovation Award, given in recognition of a website the team had developed to help archaeologists log and record new sites.

The second was the Robot Design Award, which acknowledged the technical work that had gone into their robots, particularly the use of feedback sensors to keep their movements precise and reliable.

Jeffrey (Year 9), captain of Team Brick, said after the tournament:
I am extremely proud of what we have achieved together during the season. I’ve been attending Lego Club for nearly three years, and it has been a fantastic experience.
It’s a very fun club to be part of and a great opportunity to socialise with students from across the School. It is open to all year groups, and I would definitely recommend that others join!
A huge well done to all 15 students – they represented the School brilliantly and should be proud of their efforts and achievements.
