Budding Perse climbers shown the ropes in Peak District

Perse Foundation Climbing Club members showed a head for heights as they embarked on an exciting weekend in the Peak District.

The group of 26 pupils had the chance to try outdoor climbing and bouldering, learning how rock feels in comparison to the holds on the indoor walls of the Perse Sports Centre.

They had a go at crawling, scrambling and traversing boulders on the top of Higger Tor and roped climbing on Burbage North rocks, belaying each other up climbs of various difficulties as well as discovering how to abseil.

The pupils also visited Edale Mountain Rescue and heard about their amazing work, with the group having the opportunity to ask questions to further understand how they are supported when taking part in outdoor activities.

Perse outdoor education instructor Maya Hide said: “This trip allowed the Foundation Climbing Club pupils to translate their indoor climbing skills to the rock in the Peak District. They enjoyed the new challenges and spending time with other members of the club in the outdoors.”
