Academic Life

The Perse has a strong academic reputation, but learning at the Prep is about much more than test scores. We want children to think for themselves, ask thoughtful questions, make connections and enjoy the challenges they encounter.

Strong foundations in English, mathematics and science sit alongside a broad and ambitious curriculum, with specialist teaching in languages, humanities, computing, sport and the creative and performing arts.

Expert teachers bring deep subject knowledge and real enthusiasm to their lessons, helping pupils develop confidence, curiosity and the habits that lead to successful learning. Challenge is carefully judged. Children are encouraged to test ideas, learn from mistakes and keep going when something feels difficult.

Oracy, Global Perspectives and Linguistics broaden pupils’ thinking in Years 4–6, and beyond the classroom, museum visits, local partnerships, visiting speakers and Inspiration Week make the most of our Cambridge setting.

The result is an education that is ambitious without feeling pressured: high expectations, strong scholarship and a genuine enjoyment of learning, all rooted in the warmth and encouragement of Prep life.
