Perse sports teams enjoy friendly rivalry with South African sides

Sport was the winner as Perse teams took on counterparts from a South African school across a series of friendly matches.
Hockey, rugby and netball sides from Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge visited The Perse for a festival of action on the pitch and court.
In hockey, the Perse girls’ 1st XI came up against a skilful and athletic team from the Johannesburg school but played to a high standard to run out 6-0 winners, while the boys’ U16 side claimed a 4-2 victory against their visiting opponents.
On the rugby pitch, Upper Sixth players were given their final chance to represent the Perse 1st XV and they put in a fine performance in a competitive first half with the hosts leading 19-13 at the interval.
The changes were rung for the second half with a combination of Lower Sixth and Year 11 players, who will make up next season’s 1st and 2nd XVs, coming on. With both sides looking to play expansive rugby, Trinityhouse eventually prevailed 27-22 in a close-fought match.
Meanwhile, the Perse 1st VII netball team coped well with a different style of play and intensity from Trinityhouse in their encounter before the visitors finished strongly to take the win.
