Perse pupils sleep out in aid of homelessness charity

Around 80 Year 9 Perse pupils took part in a sponsored sleepout to raise funds for Emmaus Cambridge.
They raised more than £2,750 for the local homelessness charity after bedding down for the night around the Upper site. This sum is on top of a figure of over £3,170 raised during last week’s non-uniform day for Emmaus.
Pupils began by participating in a game to earn cardboard and food for the night, doing different tasks including busking, selling newspapers and creating street art, as well as cleaning plates and washing tables.
Emmaus staff and companions – formerly homeless people who have been helped by the charity – then explained more about the work of the cause, as well as answering pupils’ questions about their experience of living on the streets.
