Singaporean students join forces with Perse pupils for design challenge

Singaporean students teamed up with Perse pupils to create innovative eco-designs in a special challenge event.
Thirteen students from the School of Science and Technology, Singapore (SST) visited the Upper and joined a group of Year 10 design & technology (DT) students in trying to make new products for domestic use combining originality, style, functionality and sustainability.
In small teams they were tasked with designing and building models for products aimed at pre-sorting household waste in the home of the future.
The teams had to consider factors such as efficiency of use, adaptation to smaller domestic spaces, and the sustainability of manufacture and materials used, before giving a presentation about their designs.
Perse Head of DT Nicolas Mainiero said: “They all benefited by having the opportunity to work with designers from a different social and cultural background.
“The exploration of the design process always flourishes when collaboration is at its centre and both sets of students exemplified this during the challenge.”
