Inspiration flows in first-ever Perse Pelican Science Week

From outer space to slime making, children were inspired by new ideas during the first-ever Perse Pelican Science Week.
Youngsters enjoyed a fun-packed start to proceedings with a special assembly, with lab-coated experts from Mad Science, which featured hair-raising experiments using a Van de Graaff generator.
Despite very soggy conditions, Year 2 pupils braved the elements to visit Wandlebury Country Park, where they explored the pond and woodland habitats, searching for minibeasts and wild flowers.
Along with Year 1, they also had an out-of-this-world experience with sensational space workshops.
Children discovered more about the Moon and the ‘space race’ of the 1960s between the USA and the former USSR before dressing up in spacesuits and taking on the ‘astronaut challenge’, as well as making their own rockets.
Year 1 youngsters enjoyed visiting the Upper biology department to look at tiny daphnia water bugs under the microscope.
Meanwhile, Reception and Nursery children had a great time making colourful slime, as well as creating colourful chromatographic designs and finding out more about insects and spiders big and small.
