Inclusion celebrated on Perse Prep Diversity Day

Perse Prep pupils celebrated a rich tapestry of perspectives during the school’s Diversity Day.
Paralympian Matthew Juniper, who competed in the 100m, 200m and long jump at the 1996 Games in Atlanta, gave an insight into the engineering behind prosthetics, while youngsters experienced inclusive sport themselves by having a go at goalball.
Children’s author Sarah Hagger-Holt spoke about her books, which feature LGBTQ+ characters and diverse families, while Dr Krishnaa Mahbubani and Dr Noemi Mallorqui told pupils about the impact of diversity in science and the importance of diversity in society respectively.
Meanwhile, the Upper IE&D team led discussions and activities designed to deepen pupils’ understanding and commitment to inclusion, equality and diversity.
Youngsters made plenty of noise as they tried African drumming, as well as reflecting on their individuality by creating origami flowers with statements of their own identities.
Prep Head of Science Stefanie Abbott, who co-ordinated Diversity Day, said: “This event was a testament to our commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
“We created a space for learning, reflection and celebration, where each of us could feel seen, heard and appreciated. We believe that by embracing our differences, we build a stronger, more cohesive community.”
