Perse Prep and Pelican Wellbeing Week celebrates mindfulness

Mindfulness was at the heart of Wellbeing Week at The Perse Prep and Pelican as children enjoyed taking part in a wide range of amazing activities.
Across both schools, youngsters were encouraged to consider the importance of having a healthy balance in their lives.
Prep pupils were wowed by Pete Thompson, aka The Skipping Ninja, and former World amateur BMX champion Mike Mullen as they demonstrated their talents in inspiring assemblies, where they also spoke about how their pursuits help support mental health and wellbeing, as well as resilience and a growth mindset.
Year 6 loved taking part in BMX workshops with Mike, a three-times UK pro halfpipe champion, as they quickly gained the confidence to try lots of exciting tricks, while Year 5 were jumping with joy after being put through their paces by Pete, the holder of multiple world skipping records.
Milton Country Park was the setting for Year 6 to test their map skills with an orienteering session, while they also used chalks to create colourful and inventive games in the playground for Year 3 to try.
Using materials from the Prep grounds, Year 3 pupils also had a great time building rafts before seeing how their crafts fared on the water at the nearby brook.
Year 5 strutted their stuff as they learned a dance routine to the Justin Timberlake hit Can’t Stop the Feeling, as well as calming things down with a relaxing weaving workshop.
Bollywood was the style for Year 4 youngsters as they threw themselves into an Indian dance session, besides having a go at the inclusive sport of sitting volleyball.

Meanwhile at the Pelican, a House activity day kicked off proceedings with children getting creative by making dream catchers from materials found in the school’s front garden, as well as pinwheels, ‘worry dolls’ and jigsaw puzzles.
They also took part in yoga sessions and breathing workshops, as well as writing messages about the things they were grateful to ‘hang’ on the Gratitude Tree.
Adorable labrador Bertie was an instant hit when he visited the Nursery with children giving him a pat or a stroke, while Year 1 also enjoyed animal antics with a trip to Shepreth Wildlife Park and Reception youngsters created elaborate chocolate spider webs.
An Indian theme round off Wellbeing Week with Year 2 taking part in an exciting dance workshop and Year 1 pupils trying tantalising traditional foods.
