Perse quizzers had all the answers with an impressive display of general knowledge in a new national online competition.

Fifteen Perse students were among hundreds of participants from across the country who pitted their wits in the BM Schools Academic Quiz (BMSAQ) Senior Challenge, answering 80 multiple choice questions in just 35 minutes across four main topics – geography, history, culture and science.

A staggering seven Perse pupils finished in the top 10 competitors nationwide. They also received Diamond awards for being among the top 10% of entrants.

Perse senior general knowledge team captain Dhruv (Upper Sixth) achieved the highest overall score with 69 out of 80, with Alexander (Year 9) third – 66, Marcus (Upper Sixth) fifth – 64, Darien (Upper Sixth) sixth – 62, Ardhra (Year 11) seventh – 61, Vera (Year 10) eighth – 60, and Benjamin (Year 9) ninth – 59.

Meanwhile, James (Upper Sixth), Ryan (Year 11), Amy (Year 10) and Elliot (Year 8) achieved Gold and Jonathan, Ivan (both Upper Sixth), Jamie (Lower Sixth) and Harry (Year 8) attained Bronze.

Dhruv said maths teacher Fred Jayatilaka, who co-ordinates Perse general knowledge teams, had introduced the BMSAQ to the school’s quizzers.

He said: “The Perse is one of the best schools each year in the Schools’ Challenge competitions, so I’m not surprised at how well we did overall.

“I’m pleased with how I did, but I just enjoy quizzes because I have an interest in a lot of different things and one day I’d like to take part in University Challenge.”
