Perse pupils Glow the Distance for Christel House

Perse students and staff got glowing with a fluorescent fun run in aid of Christel House Schools.
Around 130 members of the Perse community got involved in the biennial Glow the Distance event, which saw teams complete laps of the Upper grounds while dressed in colourful clothing and clutching glow sticks, to light up an otherwise gloomy night.
Sixth Form students were on marshalling duty, cheering participants on and keeping then on course, while Perse pop bands and musicians provided catchy sounds to keep everyone on the move.
Perse Head of Computing and Digital Strategy Paul Baker, who co-ordinated the event, said: “The turnout was very good, especially as it was a cold night, and there was lots of encouragement for those taking part.
“The idea of Glow the Distance is to bring some winter cheer and get students outdoors doing something for a good cause. There was a lovely atmosphere and a real sense of collaboration in doing something to help other people.”
The Perse has been working with Christel House since 2011 and funds raised from the sponsored event will support the foundation’s work in transforming the lives of children in some of the world’s most deprived communities through education.
Sponsors of those who took part in Glow the Distance are invited to make their donations to Christel House during the foundation’s Big Give campaign, which runs from Tuesday 3 December to Tuesday 10 December, with the first £12,500 raised being doubled.
Already £5,000 has been raised by the Perse community from two non-uniform days at the Upper, while proceeds from Christel House Christmas cards, which will also be on sale at the PPA Christmas Fair on Friday (6 December, 4pm-6pm), will be added to the Big Give campaign.
