National finals beckon for Perse hockey team

The Perse boys’ U13 team have qualified for the England Hockey Schools national finals after being crowned East champions.

Impressively, they won every match in the regional tournament at Ipswich School to earn their spot in the national finals in Nottingham in May.

The team started as they meant to go on with back-to-back 4-0 victories over Woodbridge School and Bedford Modern School.

They continued with a 1-0 win over Chigwell School and a 2-0 success against Gresham’s before sealing top spot in their pool by beating Orwell Park School 3-0.

That meant a semi-final against King’s School College Cambridge, who they defeated 1-0, before claiming the East title with an emphatic 5-0 triumph over Framlingham College in the final.

Perse Head of Hockey Ross Hayward said: “It was a superb achievement from the boys who now look forward to the national finals at Nottingham Hockey Centre.”
