Innovation seals success for Perse Lego robotics team

Budding Perse engineers built up to something special by winning an award at a prestigious Lego robotics competition.
Members of the Perse Lego Robotics Club took part in the FIRST Lego League (FLL) Challenge in Ipswich, having spent last term developing and coding their robots.
Split into Year 7 and Year 8/9 groups, both teams performed well in the Robot Games, where they scored points for completing a series of tricky tasks with their models on an aquatic-themed arena in just two-and-a-half minutes.
Perse physics teacher Richard Chen, who leads the club, said: “They all demonstrated excellent teamwork and resilience, overcoming unforeseen challenges and improving their engineering and coding skills throughout the day.”
Alongside the Robot Games was the Innovation Project, with teams tasked with coming up with a short video on the FLL Challenge theme of boosting marine conservation.
The Year 7 team prevailed with their presentation, with judges praising them for the creativity and viability of their solution to ‘improve sustainability in every part of the world’.
