Perse students hone language skills with Spanish visitors

Perse pupils cemented their Spanish skills and made new friends during a series of visits from overseas students.

Following the success of a similar project last year, students from six international schools took part in enjoyable and immersive workshops with their Perse counterparts across a range of year groups during Lent term.

They included Instituto El Astillero (Lower Sixth), Alisal School (Year 11), Instituto La Marina (Year 11), Colegio Sagrada Corazon (Year 10), Colegio Sagrada Familia (Year 8) and Colegio Kostka (Year 7), as well as Sao Paulo’s Colegio Sao Luiz (Lower Sixth).

In small groups, Perse and visiting pupils took part in many collaborative activities, games and challenges whereby the learners became the teachers and vice versa.

They developed their linguistic skills in a variety of ways, with Lower Sixth students directing El Astillero pupils in recreating scenes from El Laberinto del Fauno, a film they are studying as part of their A level Spanish course, as well as discovering the differences and similarities between Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish during their meeting with Sao Luiz students.

Year 10 pupils worked with their visitors on a group marketing project, twinning Cambridge with Santander, while Year 11 had the perfect opportunity to practise their GCSE oral presentations on topics such as traditions, holidays and the environment.

Meanwhile, Year 8 took part in a series of fun games and activities with Sagrada Familia pupils, learning about each other’s cultures and interests, and Year 7 discovered more about Santander with the help of their new friends.
