Summer sun and super sounds surround Proms at The Perse

Sumptuous sounds, summer sun and a celebratory atmosphere could only mean one thing – Proms at The Perse 2025.

An uplifting evening of music saw around 300 students perform in bands, ensembles and choirs across three ‘venues’ – the Peter Hall Performing Arts Centre auditorium and foyer and the Sports Hall.

From classical to rock and from folk to movie theme tunes, there was something to suit all ears as members of an audience of around 700 could move between stages as they wished while sampling some delicious street food.

Perse Director of Music Ben Wingfield said: “We were really lucky with the weather and had a beautiful June evening for Proms at The Perse once again.

“The nice thing is everyone can tailor the evening to their tastes, and it was a lovely way to conclude a tremendous year in music at The Perse with almost 1,000 pupils and audience members coming together for this event.”

As is now tradition, the event was rounded off in sun-soaked style as the Perse Mighty Orchestra, formed of the young musicians and keen audience members, joined together in a performance of the Hawaii Five-O theme tune.

Mr Wingfield said: “Jon Halton (music teacher) created a brilliant arrangement and the toe-tapping rendition of the classic Hawaii Five-O theme was a really fun way to end the show.

“Proms has the same high standard as you would expect of music at The Perse, but there’s a lovely informality where the audience can interact and get involved. There was a palpable community spirit and everyone had a great time.”
