Inclusive sport is the winner as Perse pupils raise charity funds

A range of exciting inclusive sports were tried by Perse Year 8 pupils as they raised funds for Power2Inspire with a special Games2Inspire day.

John Willis, founder and CEO of Power2Inspire, provided the pupils with an insight into the work of the charity, which aims to ensure everyone has access to sport, regardless of disability, age, gender, religion or ethnicity.

Each form group took part in ‘108 Challenges’ by attempting different tasks, either 108 times or for 108 seconds, inspired by Mr Willis, who, despite being born without fully formed arms and legs, completed a 108-mile kayak along the River Thames from Cricklade, Wiltshire, to Eton Dorney – the London 2012 rowing and canoe sprint venue – for Power2Inspire in 2023.

They also participated in ‘inclusive kilometres’ as pupils took turns to lead their blindfolded partner around the running track with a tether, with the sponsored challenges helping to raise just over £1,700 for the cause.

Youngsters also had lots of fun playing a variety of adaptive sports, such as boccia, goalball, New Age Kurling, sitting netball and sitting volleyball, while the new Perse Sports Centre played host to inclusive cricket.
