Charity obstacle race no barrier to fundraising for Perse students

Obstacles of all shapes and sizes were no match for a group of Perse students in their charity challenge to raise funds for East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA).

Around 30 pupils from Year 10 to Upper Sixth, along with four teachers, took part in EAAA’s Only the Brave obstacle race at Euston Estate, near Thetford, as they embarked on the three-mile version of the event.

Along the way they had great fun tackling 10 obstacles, including clambering over giant hurdles, dodging water guns and crawling under cargo nets, rounded off with a slippery slide and foam obstacle.

Having set a target of making £750 for EAAA, who provide critical care to serious ill and injured people in the region by air and road, they more than doubled that amount with almost £1,600 raised for the charity.

Perse Charities Co-ordinator Emma Kenzie said the idea for taking part in Only the Brave came from Middle Schools Charities Committee representatives Lucy and Alfie as a replacement for the Color Obstacle Rush, which is no longer held.

She added: “All the pupils did a great job. It was cold, wet and muddy, but they had a great time and really embraced the challenges and the teamwork.”
