Perse Sports Centre celebrates first birthday

The Perse Sports Centre is celebrating its first birthday by offering a range of free sessions to the local community as a thank you for their support.
Since opening in September 2024, The Perse Sports Centre has become a hive of activity, with more than 600 youngsters joining the weekly Learn to Swim programme in the 25-metre pool.
The NICAS climbing scheme is also thriving with more than 80 weekly learners getting to grips with the 10.5m wall – the tallest within a 50-mile radius.
Alongside this, the sports centre offers 13.5 hours of public swimming and 25 hours of public climbing each week, both of which have proved very popular with all levels, from beginners to advanced participants.
Featuring an extensive sports hall, the facility is also home to 11 clubs covering nine different sports, including
- City of Cambridge Swimming Club
- Cambridge City Hockey Club
- Cambridgeshire Cricket Board
- Cambridge Crossways Badminton Club
- Cambridge Triathlon Club
- Cambridge Volleyball Club
- Cambridge Cats Basketball Club
- Cambridge St Giles Cricket Club
- Rhinos Volleyball Club
- Cambridge Tigers Korfball Club
- London Mavericks Netball Club
To mark turning one-year-old, The Perse Sports Centre is offering free lane and family swims, climbing tasters and badminton sessions across the weekend of Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 October.
Perse Sports Centre Manager Daniel Hehir said: “The success of The Perse Sports Centre in its first year has only been made possible with the energy, enthusiasm and support of our local community.
“We firmly believe in the power of health and fitness to transform lives and create healthier, happier communities. Over this past year, we have been delighted to welcome so many people of all ages through our doors who have enjoyed being active in our state-of-the-art facilities.
“As a thank you, we invite everyone in the local area to come and have a public swim, climbing taster or badminton session for free next weekend. Come along, give it a go and see what the Perse Sports Centre has to offer.”
Advanced booking is strongly advised for the free sessions taking place over The Perse Sports Centre’s birthday weekend to avoid disappointment.
