Perse Prep and Pelican Wellbeing Week celebrates mindfulness

Children got involved in a wide range of fun and exciting activities during Wellbeing Week at The Perse Prep and Pelican.
Across both schools, youngsters were encouraged to consider the importance of having a healthy balance in their lives.
Prep pupils were thrilled by inspiring assemblies from former World amateur BMX champion Mike Mullen and Pete Thompson, aka The Skipping Ninja, as they displayed their awesome abilities and highlighted how their pursuits help support mental health and wellbeing, as well as resilience and a growth mindset.
Year 6 loved taking part in BMX workshops with Mike, a three-times UK pro halfpipe champion, as they quickly gained the confidence to try lots of exciting tricks, while Year 5 were leaping for joy after being roped in to practise their rope jumping skills by The Skipping Ninja, the holder of multiple world records.
Using materials from the Prep grounds, Year 3 children had a brilliant time building rafts before testing their durability on the water at the nearby brook, as well as trying out the inventive games created by Year 6 using colourful chalks in the playground.
The inclusive sport of sitting volleyball was sampled by Year 4, who also found the energy to take part in an uplifting Bollywood dance workshop.

Meanwhile at the Pelican, there was plenty of opportunity for children to get creative, from decorating pebbles to make cute creatures to drawing dazzling Aztec sun stone designs.
Year 1 had a great time at Shepreth Wildlife Park, while Nursery youngsters were visited by the lovely labrador Bertie, who captured their hearts with his playful nature.
Joyful movement was the key as Reception children took part in a flashmob, while teamwork made the dream work as they came up with solutions to transporting acorns.
To celebrate Diwali, which coincided with Wellbeing Week, Nursery created eye-catching rangoli patterns and Year 2 threw themselves into an Indian dance workshop.
With Halloween just around the corner, Reception children enjoyed sketching pumpkins and making creepy ‘swamp’ creatures.
