Top of the class for GCSE results

Perse academic departments have achieved top positions in the latest government school comparison tables.

The service provides data on GCSE results by school and subject. (Click here to read the full report).

In the 2025 results, three Perse departments — Ancient History, Chinese and Music — achieved the top result in England for the percentage of GCSE entries graded 9. Also ranking within the top 10 nationally were Physics and History, while English Literature, Geography, Chemistry and Maths placed within the top 20.

The data are for results-day grades and do not include any changes post-reviews of marking (82 of Perse GCSE grades have been increased in the review process).

Head Ed Elliott commented: “It is wonderful that so many Perse departments have been placed so highly in the national tables for GCSE results. Such stellar outcomes reflect the combination of excellent subject teaching, high-quality pastoral care, and ambitious, hard-working pupils who are committed to their studies.”
