Perse student qualifies for Cambridge Economics and Finance Global Finals

A student from The Perse has earned international recognition after qualifying for the Global Finals of the Cambridge Economics and Finance Competition. Following an impressive performance in the regional round, Kiana was awarded a Gold Award, placing her in the top 15% of participants globally, and is now one of just 60 students invited to compete at the finals this October.

The competition, organised by the Cambridge University Finance and Investment Society, attracts a global cohort of students interested in economics and finance. In 2025, the competition saw nearly 10,000 participants from more than 20 countries. The regional round consisted of a challenging 90-minute assessment featuring 50 multiple-choice questions, covering a wide range of topics including microeconomics, macroeconomics, financial markets, accounting, and valuation methods.

“I found the regional round to be a great test of my knowledge on economics and accounting and finance principles on the whole.” Kiana reflected. “For me, the most challenging part was learning a lot of the valuation and accounting formulae and being able to apply them in a short time frame per question. Many of the equations were new.”

Despite the difficulty, the experience proved highly rewarding. “The most rewarding part was having my understanding of the topics validated whilst competing on a global level.” she said.

“I was very happy and proud to find out I had qualified for the global finals. The Gold Award showed how rewarding the process was, particularly as much of my work was in depth (and sometimes beyond) A-level curriculum.”

Alongside the competitive elements, the finals will also provide opportunities to engage with leading academics and experience student life at Cambridge. “I’m eager to listen to the lectures and workshops that will be run by Cambridge economics professors and Cambridge alumni, and of course to the special opportunity to attend a formal Cambridge dinner.” Kiana added.

This outstanding achievement reflects both Kiana’s academic ability and her commitment to extending her learning beyond the classroom. Qualifying for such a selective global final is a testament to her dedication and enthusiasm for economics and finance, and The Perse looks forward to following her progress this October.
