Languages – Other
The Perse Sixth Form offers students the opportunity to develop proficiency in a range of additional languages through internationally recognised qualifications. Subject to sufficient demand, courses may be available in French, German, Chinese and Japanese, allowing students to strengthen their language skills and gain qualifications recognised by universities and employers worldwide.
Internationally recognised qualifications
Students can work towards a range of externally accredited language qualifications. Where appropriate, proficiency tests may be required to determine a student’s starting level and ensure they are placed in the most suitable class. Where students present with significantly different levels of prior knowledge, courses will normally be offered at the level most appropriate for the majority of the group.
Available qualifications may include:
- DELF – Awarded by the French Ministry of Education, DELF qualifications provide internationally recognised certification of French language proficiency for non-native speakers.
- Goethe-Zertifikat (GZ) – An official qualification that certifies proficiency in German as a second language and is recognised internationally.
- HSK – The Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) is China’s official test of Chinese language proficiency for non-native speakers. A subsidised charge applies for this course
- JLPT – The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is an internationally recognised qualification for non-native speakers of Japanese. A subsidised charge applies for this course.
Future pathways
Studying an additional language develops communication skills, cultural awareness and international understanding. These qualifications provide formal recognition of language proficiency and can complement Sixth Form studies across a wide range of academic and professional pathways.
