Drama & Theatre

Drama and Theatre at The Perse Sixth Form offers students the opportunity to develop advanced practical performance skills through a distinctive programme that combines specialist curricular study with the exceptional facilities and opportunities of the Peter Hall Performing Arts Centre. Whether students are considering theatre as a future pathway or wish to develop the confidence, creativity and communication skills that are valued across every profession, the course provides an inspiring and highly practical experience.

A practical approach to theatre

In Year 12, students can study a Trinity College London practical qualification, designed to build on earlier experience and develop performance skills to an advanced level. The course focuses on practical theatre-making, enabling students to refine their acting, rehearsal and performance techniques through challenging, engaging and professionally relevant work.

Our decision to offer the Trinity qualification reflects our belief that students benefit most from a programme centred on practical theatre-making, supported by the outstanding opportunities available across the wider Drama department.

Learning beyond the classroom

Drama at The Perse Sixth Form extends far beyond the curriculum. Students have access to an exceptional programme of productions, workshops and performances through the Peter Hall Performing Arts Centre, alongside theatre visits in Cambridge, London and further afield.

There are opportunities to develop skills across every aspect of theatre production, including acting, directing, stage management, lighting, sound, costume and technical theatre. Students work alongside experienced practitioners and become part of a vibrant creative community that stages an extensive programme of drama and theatre productions throughout the year.

University preparation and future pathways

The combination of specialist practical study and extensive performance experience provides excellent preparation for university courses, drama schools and professional conservatoires. Students interested in acting, directing, technical theatre or stage management develop the practical experience and portfolio needed to support competitive applications.

Equally, Drama equips students with highly transferable skills that are valued across a wide range of university courses and careers. Creativity, collaboration, communication, leadership and the confidence to present ideas effectively are qualities that benefit aspiring medics, lawyers, engineers, entrepreneurs and many others.

Outstanding opportunities

The breadth of Drama and Theatre opportunities at The Perse Sixth Form is exceptional. From high-quality productions and specialist technical training to theatre trips and performance workshops, students benefit from an education that prepares them for the highest levels of further study while fostering the confidence, resilience and creativity to succeed in whatever path they choose.
