Perse Pelicans go the extra mile with Charity Marathon

Perse Pelican pupils put their feet to the floor to raise money for excellent causes with their annual Charity Marathon.

On a very warm day, the resilient runners set off on circuits of the Pelican site and collected stickers for each lap they completed before cooling down with some tasty frozen watermelon at the end of their turn.

The Pelicans’ exacting efforts saw them finish a total of 2,113 laps, equivalent to almost 11 whole marathons!

Nursery children took it all in their stride by completing 314 circuits (around one-and-a-half marathons) and Reception pupils managed 501 laps (around two-and-a half marathons).

Meanwhile, Years 1 and 2 finished 568 (around three marathons) and 730 laps (around four marathons) respectively to help raise funds for the pupils’ chosen causes, pets charity Woodgreen and the Wildlife Trust for Beds, Cambs & Northants.

This year’s Charity Marathon formed part of a wider house activity day focusing on health and fitness, with children moving to the beat with a dance workshop, making fruit kebabs and creating their own fun fruit and vegetable characters.
