France fun for Perse Prep pupils

Life across the Channel was explored by Year 5 Perse Prep pupils during a fun visit to France.

Staying in the town of Rue, the excited youngsters began their adventure with a trip to the seaside at nearby Berck-sur-Mer, where they took part in a sand sculpture competition and played beach games before keeping the sporting theme going with an Olympics-style event in the evening.

Taskmaster Français, based on the Channel 4 comedy challenge series, got the second day off to a fun-fuelled start as children were given assignments such as building a mini-replica of the Eiffel Tower out of things in the Chateau grounds, predicting how many times a ping pong ball would bounce, a blindfolded count to 100 in French, and standing up in synch with the other members of their teams.

They then visited the market in Rue to buy souvenirs and the chance to put their French speaking skills to the test before flying high with a kite-making workshop.

The pupils started the following day with an enjoyable visit to a goat farm, where they cuddled and bottle-fed the baby animals before discovering how goats’ cheese is made and trying some for themselves.

Afterwards, the group travelled to the nearby Thiepval Memorial, which commemorates more than 72,000 officers who perished during the Battles of the Somme, and the trenches at Beaumont-Hamel, as they had time to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who served during World War I.

A final evening of fun around the campfire followed, but there was still time for the youngsters to round off an amazing trip with a visit to Nausicaa, Europe’s biggest aquarium, in Boulogne.
