A conversation with our Heads of School

Since taking on their roles earlier in the year, Hannah and Ted have been representing the student body as The Perse’s Heads of School. They took on the role of ringing the first bell at the opening assembly last month, welcoming staff and students back for the new academic year.

Both Ted and Hannah have now settled into their roles as Heads of School. We asked them to share a little more about their experiences at The Perse so far, and what matters most to them.

Ted

Having joined The Perse in Year 7, Ted has experienced first-hand how the opportunities available to students develop throughout their time at the School.

“I feel extremely fortunate to have been able to attend The Perse. It has enabled me to achieve my absolute best academically whilst also allowing me to grow into a more well-rounded person through the variety of opportunities outside the classroom.”

Ted says that he appreciates the approach taken by teachers in the classroom, particularly the encouragement to tackle challenging ideas, learn from mistakes and develop confidence in his own abilities.

He also sees the extra-curricular programme as an important part of the Perse experience.

“The variety of extra-curricular opportunities on offer to pupils is incredible.”

“From sport and music to exploration and clubs, these activities give students the chance to discover new interests, build friendships and connect with others across the School.”

Hannah

For Hannah, one of the defining features of The Perse is the combination of academic ambition and a supportive community.

“From the outset, I was amazed by how an environment filled with such ambitious and curious students could be such a kind and welcoming one too.”

She has particularly valued the breadth of opportunities available, from academic subjects and sport to music, clubs and societies. These have encouraged her to explore new interests and try things beyond her usual comfort zone.

Intellectual curiosity is another aspect of school life that stands out to her.

“There is a real emphasis on engaging with academics critically and meaningfully, not just in a way which is outcome-focused, but in a way which promotes a genuine curiosity for learning.”

Hannah told us how much she appreciated the emphasis on pastoral support, and the way students are encouraged to develop both academically and personally.

Looking Ahead

As Heads of School, Hannah and Ted bring their own experiences of The Perse to the role, alongside a clear appreciation of the opportunities and support available to students.

They have made a strong start and will continue to represent the student body throughout the year. We look forward to seeing how they develop the role and contribute to school life in the months ahead.

We wish them well, along with all our Prefects, in their roles for the rest of the academic year.
