The Perse School

Boys cricket

Our cricket structure is moving with the modern era of cricket, where positive cricket is promoted throughout the age groups. The cricket programme’s main focus is on all individuals developing and practicing their key skills in addition to structured and focused nets sessions for all pupils playing cricket. Our Cricket Academy provides technical, tactical, physiological and psychological support for our top cricketers.

In 2016, England Test cricket captain Alastair Cook gave a batting masterclass at the School, sharing tips on technique as he responded to balls from our top male and female bowlers.

In the Lent term, pre-season training takes place for all age groups indoors, as well as an indoor cricket league for senior pupils.

In the Lower School we no longer combine Year 7 and Year 8 in order to allow more pupils to be involved in competitive fixtures against other schools. For those excelling in their age groups, there is the opportunity to play for the year above in order to maximize their potential and further develop. We field three teams in Years 9 and 10, one team in Year 11 and a 1st and 2nd team at Sixth Form. The 1st XI play in an annual cricket festive featuring schools from Durham and Liverpool.

There is a strong fixture list in the summer term and pupils play against some of the best teams in East Anglia and beyond, with all age groups representing the school in various County and National Cup competitions.

We have block fixtures against Bedford, Oundle, The Leys, Norwich, Haileybury, Culford, Bishop’s Stortford College, Bishop Stortford High School, Wellingborough, Ipswich and Stamford.

In 2016/2017 the U13’s won the County Cup, with the U12’s and U14’s finishing runners up.

In 2015/2016 the U12 and U14 teams won the County Championship and the 1st XI won the T20 county round.

In the 2014/15 season, the U14 team won the County Championship and represented Cambridgeshire in the Lord’s Taverners National Cricket Competition. That same year several players represented Cambridgeshire in the county team.

We have previously toured the Caribbean during the Easter holidays as part of our pre-season; however our cricket tours are currently under review and details will be updated in due course.
