There are three key entry points to the Upper: Year 7, Year 9 and the Lower Sixth. If you are looking for information about sixth form entry please visit the sixth form admissions section. Occasionally places become available in other year groups; it is always worth contacting us to check the current situation.
Around 60 external applicants join us in each of Years 7 and 9, pupils progressing from the Prep (Year 7), or the Lower School (Year 9). In Year 7 in particular we draw from a very wide range of maintained sector primary schools.
We encourage you to visit the School before applying for a place. We hold open mornings in both the Michaelmas term and Summer term, and a taster morning in October. We also hold afternoon tours most weeks during term-time so that you can get a feel for the School on a normal working day.
Once you have decided that The Perse is the right school for your son or daughter, the next step is to apply for a place before the relevant deadline. We will seek a confidential reference from your child’s current school, and invite them into school for their entrance examination.
We have a small number of scholarships available in Year 7 and Year 9 to pupils of exceptional merit. These financial awards are normally worth 5% of the annual school fees.
We also offer means-tested financial assistance with fees to those families who could not otherwise afford a Perse education. The level of assistance varies in value from 5% to 100% of annual fees, and is dependent on the financial circumstances of the parents.
The Perse does not have any boarding accommodation and so cannot accept applications from overseas pupils under the age of 16 without a parent or legal guardian in the Cambridge area.
