In addition to our main curriculum curriculum languages we offer a three-, or sometimes two-, year course extra-curricular course leading to a GCSE qualification in the following languages:
Lessons take place over one lunchtime and one after-school session per week, equivalent to just under seven teaching periods per fortnight. Following a free three-week trial period at the start of the academic year, a modest annual payment is payable to subsidise the cost of running these additional classes.
Students usually complete these course in Years 9, 10 and 11. We provide a brief introduction to these languages in Year 7 via our global studies course, and there is a Year 8 club to enable students to continue exploring the languages ahead of the GCSE course.
Where there is sufficient student interest, we also look to offer a similar subsidised extra-curricular AS over two years in Italian and Japanese, for sixth formers. This runs in similar fashion to the courses above.
