Pupil happiness is a pre-requisite to academic and extra-curricular success. We provide a supportive community characterised by mutual respect, encouragement and care.
Children do best when there is an effective partnership between home and school. At the Prep, Form Teachers keep in close contact with parents to ensure that pupils are getting the most out of their time here, to discuss and address any concerns at the earliest opportunity and to help parents support their children’s education.
One of our four values is ‘breadth and balance’. We are very aware of the challenges and pressures of life within (and outside) a vibrant and busy school, and we work hard with pupils, parents, and staff to try to strike the right balance between work and play, comfort and challenge, instruction and discovery, rules and common sense, questioning and humility, and guidance and independence.
We give new pupils a warm welcome to the School. Around half of our Year 3 intake come from the Pelican, while half join us from a variety of other schools, both local and further afield. Many pupils already know the Prep well having attended the Year 1 Activity Morning and Year 2 Taster Morning. All pupils attend an induction morning in the term before they join us, designed to help them find their feet here quickly.
Once at The Perse, each pupil is part of a form and a House, giving them plenty of opportunity to make friends across the School. There are frequent ‘whole Prep school’ events, such as the Friday morning assemblies, where pupils, staff and parents come together to celebrate all the achievements of the past week, the ‘Prep Has Got Talent’ show and numerous House events.
