Christmas gift for Perse teacher’s marathon charity appeal
Festive fundraising has helped Perse teacher Liam Woods pick up the pace of his TCS London Marathon bid for Mencap.
The Perse Head of Middle School will be taking part in the world-famous marathon in April to raise money for the charity, which supports people with learning disabilities.
Mr Woods has been given an added spring in his step courtesy of the Perse Middle School Charities Committee deciding to pledge around £2,500 raised from their non-uniform Christmas Hat and Jumper Day to his appeal.
He was delighted that the Charities Committee had provided their backing to Mencap after pitching the cause to them.
Mr Woods also recently presented whole-school community assemblies to make pupils aware of Mencap’s work across the UK.
He explained that people with learning disabilities face many inequalities, including finding a job and accessing activities in their local community, with the charity trying to tackle such issues head on by providing support in a way that meets individual needs and encourages greater independence.
Mr Woods added: “By supporting Mencap, we will be helping to support people with a learning disability to live the life they choose and do the things they love.”
