Perse Summit 11 group all set for Sweden after tough training camp

Perse pupils taking part in the PES Summit 11 training camp showed they were made of stern stuff ahead of next summer’s trip to Sweden.

The group were treated to some genuinely tough training conditions thanks to the difficult weather conditions, but they did well to deal with whatever challenge presented itself and gained the core skills needed to prepare themselves to successfully complete their Scandinavian adventure.

Upon arrival, pupils set up their group shelters along with their personal hammock and tarps. A day of land-based training followed, with sessions looking at fire lighting, cooking on fire boxes and the safe use of cutting tools. To get in the mood for the forthcoming expedition, a traditional Swedish meal of meatballs was cooked and enjoyed.

Day two saw a relaxed morning of carving and baking followed by canoe training, ensuring that everyone is fully prepared for the journeying element of their summer trip.

Perse Assistant Head of Outdoor Pursuits Kieron Taylor said: “This year’s Summit 11 cohort showed great enthusiasm for the training weekend and I look forward to travelling to Sweden with them next July.”
