Regional success for Perse Prep cricket teams

The Perse Prep girls’ and boys’ U11 cricket teams have proved to be big hitters after success in their respective ESCA (English Schools Cricket Association) regional finals.
In the girls’ tournament at Framlingham College, the team edged out Beeston Hall School by 12 runs in their first group match.
They went on to top their pool with a victory by 67 runs over Culford to book their place in the final, where they met Bancroft’s and won by 38 runs as well as taking an outstanding 13 wickets in 12 overs to be crowned East champions.
The team also finished runners-up in the regional finals of the IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools) competition, losing to St Michael’s Prep School in the final after winning all of their group games.
Prep Head of Girls’ Cricket Nicky Clark said: “The whole squad should be very proud of their performances. The team played some exciting cricket throughout their two tournaments.”
“They were outstanding in the ESCA final and to take 13 wickets against a strong side is a fantastic achievement. They were beaten by a very talented team in the IAPS final and I wish them every success for the future.”
Meanwhile, the boys’ team have qualified for next month’s ESCA national finals at Oakham School after topping their pool in the regional finals at the Old Chigwellians Club.
They won all of their matches, defeating Town Close School by 19 runs, Chigwell School by 22 runs and Framlingham by 15 runs.
Prep Head of Boys’ Cricket Dan Nicholes commented: “I was delighted with the performances of all of the boys who represented the school on the day.
“The boys played some fantastic cricket and showcased their cricketing talents. They have had a fantastic season so far and it’s a great achievement to reach another national finals.”
