Historic national titles for Perse Prep tennis aces

Perse Prep tennis teams have aced the IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools) national finals for the first time.

Etienne and Beau (both Year 6) won the boys’ U11 title, while Lillian and Anamaya (both Year 5) claimed the girls’ U11 honours in a clean sweep of the tournament at Rugby School.

Steven (Year 5) and Dhruv (Year 4) also finished an extremely creditable sixth place in the boys’ team competition.

Each team played two singles and one doubles match against their opponents, with one point awarded for each victory in the knockout event.

After a bye in the opening stage, Etienne and Beau were in scintillating form as they won 3-0 against Aldwickbury in the second round, Westminster Under School in the quarter-finals and Solihull in the semi-finals.

They secured the national crown with a 2-1 success over Brentwood School’s A team in the final after prevailing in the deciding doubles encounter.

Lillian and Anamaya also had a bye in the first round before beating Framlingham College 3-0 in the second round.

The Perse pair edged out Belmont and Stonyhurst 2-1 in the quarter and semi-finals respectively and clinched the title with a 3-0 triumph over St Albans High School in the final.

Meanwhile, Steven and Dhruv won 3-0 against Aysgarth School and Brentwood B in the first and second round respectively.

They lost 2-1 to Solihull in the quarter-finals, but responded by defeating Westminster by the same score in a play-off to move into the fifth-place decider, where they went down 2-1 to Gayhurst School.
