Perse climbers on the ropes in Peak District

Fifteen intrepid pupils scaled the heights of excitement with a Perse Foundation Climbing Club trip to the Peak District.

The group headed first to Awesome Walls in Sheffield to try their hand at bouldering and roped climbing in a large-scale venue.

Pupils were faced with walls in excess of 12 metres tall with a huge variety of routes to choose from. It was also an excellent opportunity for pupils to witness professional climbers train in a nationally recognised venue.

Thoroughly tired out by the exertions of the climbing wall, the pupils headed into the Peak District for their overnight accommodation at Edale YHA.

After a good night’s rest, pupils were refreshed for another day of climbing as they set out for Birchen Edge. This outcrop of rock, crested by an obelisk-like monument to Lord Nelson, is a popular climbing venue with outdoor climbers.

The group were treated to stunning sunshine and clear views of the surrounding national park, as they took on a multitude of climbs of varying grades, while some even had a go at abseiling to round off an exhilarating trip.
