Perse cricket team hit it big with historic MCC fixture









The Perse girls’ 1st XI cricket team rose to the occasion when they had the honour of facing the MCC women’s side for the first time.
They played two T20 matches against their illustrious visitors, with the MCC winning the opening encounter by seven wickets.
Batting first, The Perse registered a total of 94, including a knock of 49 from captain Bella Howarth, with the MCC chasing the score down in the final over, despite Georgia Abensour taking 2 for 8.
The MCC batted first in the second match and set a target of 100 for the girls to win, which they duly did by nine wickets, with the help of 51 from Bella Howarth and an unbeaten 35 by May Busher.
MCC Spirit of Cricket awards were given to Bella Howarth and Georgia Abensour by the opposition captain for their efforts – Bella for hitting 100 runs across both matches and Georgia for respective bowling figures of 3-0-8-2 and 4-1-12-1.
Perse Assistant Head of Cricket Laura Sturgeon, who coached the side, said: “The team were very excited to host such a prestigious club and we hope that this will become a regular part of the senior girls’ cricket programme.”
