Record number of Oxbridge offers for Perse students

Perse students are celebrating a record number of Oxbridge offers from the 2022-23 admissions cycle.

From 136 applications, 52 students have been offered Oxbridge places, with 30 from Oxford University and 22 from Cambridge University.

In total, 239 applications were made to UCAS, including some students who took a gap year. As it stands, 468 university offers have been received including offers from popular choices such as Exeter, Durham and Bristol.

Internationally, one student has received an offer from Harvard, another has an offer from the highly competitive and prestigious Bocconi University in Milan, while a 2022 Old Persean has accepted a place at Yale after taking a gap year.

It follows on from The Perse being named top independent secondary school for academic performance in East Anglia in Parent Power, The Sunday Times Schools Guide 2023.

Head Ed Elliott commented: “We are delighted that so many Perse students have secured offers from top universities including a record number from Oxford and Cambridge this year.

“These outstanding numbers are a testament to the hard work and dedication of students and the support they have received from exceptionally committed and inspiring teachers.

“Many thanks must also go to our university advice team, led by Director of University Admissions and Progression Claire Knowles. The team, which includes specialist advisors for Medicine, Law, Oxbridge and Overseas Admissions have worked tirelessly to ensure our students have the best possible opportunity to achieve the offers they deserve.

“Successful applications to top universities also stem from the quality of Perse students’ A level results, with 84% of entries awarded an A* or A grade (or Pre U equivalent) in 2022, highlighting The Perse’s position as one of the leading schools in the country.”
