Top children’s author headlines Reading Festival

Leading children’s author Nizrana Farook joined in the fun at the Perse Prep Reading Festival.

Best known for books such as The Girl Who Lost a Leopard and The Boy Who Met a Whale, Nizrana set the tone for a day of literary larks with a fascinating talk about her inspirations.

She then led a workshop with Year 5 pupils, helping them start some thrilling adventure stories that they can work on over the summer.

Across all year groups, children’s knowledge of literature was put to the test with a book quiz, with the ‘guess the mystery reader’ round giving children a chance to show how much they had been listening this year as they tried to identify various teachers’ voices.

Pupils had the chance to bring verses to life with a performance poetry slam, as well as sharing their book recommendations with classmates.

A fun day ended with a story under the trees on Leighton Lawn, read by each child’s respective new form tutor, while Year 6 pupils had a trip down memory lane by returning to their old Year 3 classes.
