Huge sum raised in first-ever Perse Giving Day

The first-ever Perse Giving Day has raised a six-figure sum to help the school’s work in changing young people’s lives.

The 36-hour event saw £114,229 given to support The Perse’s bursaries and community outreach funds thanks to generous backing from more than 200 individual donors.

Gifts were received from nine different countries across three continents, emphasising the global nature of the Perse community.

During Giving Day, a series of fundraising challenges were successfully completed, allowing extra funding to be unlocked towards the appeal.

As part of the campaign, the Pupil Challenge saw 2,800 items of food and vital items donated by the Perse community for Cambridge City Food Bank – enough to provide a three-day emergency food package for 47 families. In response to the success of the Pupil Challenge, £10,000 was given by a generous donor to the Giving Day appeal.

Erin Charles, Perse Head of Development, whose team led the campaign, said: “Perse Giving Day was an amazing success and it was fantastic to see the whole school community coming together in support of our bursaries and outreach programmes. We are really grateful to everyone who made a gift to the campaign.”

“We look forward to deepening our relationships with our state school partners, and welcoming more pupils to The Perse through our means-tested bursary scheme, enabling them to experience the transformative education, pastoral support and extra-curricular activities that the School has to offer.”

Perse Head Ed Elliott added: “We have been amazed by the kindness and generosity of over 200 donors who collectively donated to support our bursary and outreach programmes.

“The Perse does not have a significant endowment and relies on regular donations to fund its charitable work. The funds raised on Giving Day will quickly be put to work allowing children whose families could not afford the fees to attend The Perse and financing educational projects to enhance learning in local state schools.”
